  1. I have such wonderful memories of this beautiful church my parents Syd and Rose Deere brought me here as a child 60years ago it will forever hold a special place in my heart Anthony CDeere

  2. This is a special place. My fist visit was when I was at the College of the Venerable Bede 1963 to 1966 studying to teach craft with art and RE of course. My tutor took us there on a visit to.look at the old stonework, He was a speculative Mason and explained it all

  3. Thank you for the research data. I was looking through the data for the Showers Family name and Escomb Saxon Church has an entire page devoted to Escomb. Very Interesting. Thank you, Almighty Creator!

  4. We have visited Escomb Church several times when we had relatives living in the village, this website fills in much of the history of restoration of a truly superb example of a Saxon Church.

  5. I had the great pleasure of visiting this remarkable holy site while attending a Summer Studies Program at nearby University College, Durham in 1992. I carry the memory with me to this very day. While there I was reminded of the words of T. S. Eliot in “Little Gidding”:

“You are not here to verify,
    Instruct yourself, or inform curiosity
Or carry report. You are here to kneel
    Where prayer has been valid.”
